INTRODUCTION TO 2899 MAGAZINE – VOLUME 1 ISSUE 2 

Welcome to issue 2 of 2899 Magazine.

Following the overwhelming accolades received of issue I, it was to say the least, a daunting task to approach issue 2. Consciously or not the benchmark has been set though I believe that together the magazine’s contributors and I have risen to the challenges set by the occasion and continued as was always intended.

In this issue we welcome some new sections, some new writers and include some great and interesting new features as well as the first annual 2899 photographic competition offering readers the chance to win prizes valued at $1000.

Kevin Adams has written about local identity ‘Did’s Evans in our first Ailen Sullen (Island People) feature. Multi-Award Winning Central Coast jazz musician, composer and author;
Dorian Mode recalls his recent visit to Norfolk Island. Mary Christian-Bailey ‘Remembers’ Aunt Amy and The Clothing Club, an intriguing insight into the early days of shopping on Norfolk Island. Jodie Williams discusses the importance of a collective brand for Norfolk Island and welcomes us to ‘The World of Norfolk. All of this and more form the line-up in this 2nd edition of 2899 Magazine.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of those that have helped and encouraged 2899 Magazine come to fruition. By creating a publication of this nature I have found myself surrounded by those who have welcomed its introduction and who have rallied to support it. I consider myself fortunate to have become involved with the contributors, copy-editors and advertisers whose faith in the product and whose understanding of what it must reflect has proven paramount to its success. While 2899 Magazine may have started out as my own pet-project, it has become nothing less than a collective ‘lovemark’ of those of us who are fortunate enough to call Norfolk Island home.
