INTRODUCTION TO DISCOVER NORFOLK – VOLUME 4 ISSUE 1

Welcome to Discover Norfolk, Volume 4 Issue 1 – Norfolk Island’s most comprehensive and freely distributed visitor magazine.

The first publication of the year is always a very busy one with lots of advertiser content changes, exciting features and fascinating articles to present to you. It’s wonderful to watch the magazine come to life, put it into production and get it safely on its way to Norfolk’s shores – a task which we learn in this issue, is not always ‘ smooth-sailing’.

In March this year we commemorate 230 years since the HMS Sirius wrecked on Norfolk’s magnificent reef and anchored itself into Australia’s maritime history. Helen Brackin tells us just how the Sirius came to an end and what that has meant for our understanding of the ship, and the Norfolk Island Museum collection today.

Also in this issue, Jenny Jauczius gathers some ethereal tales in her article, ‘Followed by a moon shadow’ and illustrates Norfolk’s eerie relationship with the great beyond. Mary Christian-Bailey shares the story of Bishop John Coleridge Patteson’s unique and world-travelled desk, and how it came (back) to reside in the St. Barnabas Chapel Parish Centre. We also have a multitude of other articles and teatures for you to enjoy.
