INTRODUCTION TO YOURWORLD NORFOLK ISLAND – VOLUME 2 ISSUE 1

Welcome to YourWorld Norfolk Island, Volume 2 Issue 1.

This publication is a very special one for me as it is both the Sth publication of the YourWorld series, and it is 2899 Design’s 10th publication in succession over the past 3 years, beginning with 2899 Magazine in December 2008.

It seems along time ago that I set out on this journey, though the goals of the publication ring true today, “It is my way of beginning to encapsulate the essence of the island. It is a celebration of Norfolk Island and its people, yesterday, today and tomorrow.” (Introduction to 2899 Magazine, Volume / Issue 1)
Since then I am proud to have produced well over 500 pages of information for the Norfolk Island visitor, featured well over 50 articles amounting to over 75,000 written article words about the Norfolk Island destination, its people, attractions, history and culture from an array of fantastic writers and therein printed over 3.35 million pages. And the best thing is, I really feel that I am just getting started as there are still so many stories to tell and I hope, a growing market of visitors to share them with.

Soon after completing my first year of production and having found my feet with it all, I realised that I had become almost saddened that the experiences and energy of the articles remained solely in the pages of the magazines and I elected to build a display centre around myself in the 2899 Design offices in the Norfolk Mall to showcase these wonderful aspects of Norfolk Island. Two years later, I have moved the design offices and left a new exhibit that brings to life many of the stories that have featured in the magazine pages over the years. Recently I met writer Jeanette Han and gave her a preview to the gallery and asked that she help me introduce it in this publication. I must have left a fine impression as she kindly gives me a rapturous welcome further on in this magazine.

Finally, I extend a welcome to Norfolk Island’s Minister for Tourism, the Hon. André Nobbs, and to Norfolk Air CEO Jeff Murdoch. They have both offered their support in endorsing my publications as the official Inflight magazines for Norfolk Air over the years and they explain in this issue that Norfolk Air flight services are due to cease in 2012. Like many on Norfolk Island, I will be sad to see Norfolk Air go, though this airline development is designed to be a progression and as someone who loves progress and embraces change, I very much hope that it will be start of something special.
