INTRODUCTION TO YOURWORLD NORFOLK ISLAND – VOLUME 4 ISSUE 1
Welcome to YourWorld Norfolk Island, Volume 4 Issue 1.
As a publication, we aim to be a reflection of Norfolk Island’s people and stories, both past and present. Now, as we enter our sixth year, we continue to evolve in response to the island around us – ensuring that we can provide you, our valued reader, quality and up-to-date information.
Through our articles we often take you back in time. For those who have walked through historic Kingston, it doesn’t take much to envisage a very different life to that which we enjoy today. In this issue, we take your imagination to another level as we explore one of Norfolk Island’s most notorious attempted mutinies.
As you spare a thought for the convicts of the penal settlement, you may also feel for those early islanders whose industries were at the mercy of the environment, such as the ‘Bean Seed’ industry that existed at a time when Norfolk Island was slowly edging out of a subsistence lifestyle. As Mary Christian-Bailey explores Norfolk’s connection to the humble Bean Seed, it’s difficult to imagine this Island without the varied and fabulous produce we now enjoy.
Also in this issue of YourWorld, keep your eye out for a different kind of Norfolk local – ‘a little birdy told me’ that you’re about to gain a new perspective of this paradise isle …
