INTRODUCTION TO YOURWORLD NORFOLK ISLAND – VOLUME 4 ISSUE 2
Welcome to YourWorld Norfolk Island, Volume 4 Issue 2.
Great company and food are always present each June, as Norfolk Island commemorates the arrival of their Pitcairn forebears. The islanders celebrate in true Norfolk style – surrounded by family and copious amounts of delicious food. The Bounty Day picnic celebrates homegrown produce and also reflects the islanders’ intimate connection to certain ingredients and recipes. In this issue Mary Christian-Bailey shares the intricacies of cooking for Bounty Day with the readers of YourWorld. If you’ve never seen a Bounty Day feast before, it truly is a sight to behold.
Today, we know that foods grown naturally in chemical-free circumstances are better for our health, so it should be no surprise that Norfolk Island is becoming quite the food destination. It is also an ideal place to rear happy animals, and as some on-island entrepreneurs have discovered, this can lead to the production of fantastic cheeses. Natalie Grube uncovers two of Norfolk’s newest cottage industries in an article that may prove, once and for all, that the grass really is greener on Norfolk Island.
Norfolk’s community spirit makes this island a wonderful place to live. In this edition of Your World we discover how the Norfolk Island Quota Club have helped many on the island and beyond through their fundraising and assistance, helping to unite the community for the greater good. The Quota club ladies know how warm company and great food can result in a successful fundraiser.
I hope you enjoy your stay on beautiful Norfolk Island.
